Italian character tenor Paolo Antognetti has been an audience favorite across the globe. His masterful portrayals, musicality and simpatico driven by his sweet-timbered voice also allow him to sing some lyric tenor roles such as Nemorino and Don Ottavio.

In 2017/18, Mr. Antognetti performs as Le Remendado in Carmen at Opera di Firenze, Borsa in Rigoletto at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and Raymond in Jérusalem at Festival Verdi in Parma. Recent seasons have seen Paolo Antognetti performing for delighted audiences across Italy in the roles of Arlecchino in I Pagliacci, Spoletta in Tosca, Gastone in La Traviata, Pong in Turandot, Ismaele in Nabucco, Tebaldo in both Romèo et Juliette and I Capuletti e i Montecchi, and many others. He has also appeared outside of Italy at the Royal Opera House of Muscat in Oman (Pong in Turandot), the State Opera Rousse in Bulgaria (Ismaele in Nabucco), International Opera Theater in Philadelphia (multiple roles in the World Première of Carlo Pedini’s Jago), Musikfestuttgart in Germany and the Concertgebouw in Holland (Eurimaco/Eumete in Il Ritorno d’Ulisse). He has created the roles for World Premièmes of Fabio Vacchi’s Lo specchio magico at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Alessandro di Fere/John Dunbar) and Alessandro Solbiati’s Il suono giallo at Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

Throughout Europe, audiences have seen Mr. Antognetti as Lucano in L’Incoronazione di Poppea at Festival Mito (Italy) and Festival Perigueux (France), in Eurimaco/Eumete in Il Ritorno d’Ulisse at Musikfestuttgart (Germany) and Concertgebouw (Holland), Arlecchino in I Pagliacci at Festival Mascagni (Italy), Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at Villa Cordelina (Italy), Tebaldo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi at Teatro Camploy (Italy), Conte Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore at Pergine Spettacolo Aperto (Italy), and in L’Orfeo at Festival Santande (Spain).

Mr. Antognetti’s recordings include Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria (Eurimaco/ Eumete) with La Venexiana, Fiamma D’Amore – Italian romantic songs, and I Suoni del Castello with the Luca Cosi Quartet. As a soloist on the concert stage, he has performed with Ente Arena di Verona, Orchestra Coccia di Novara, Orchestra Santa Cecilia de Bescia, Orchestra l’Incanto Armonico, Orchestra di Lecco, La Venexiana, Orchestra da Camera Arteviva, and the Ricercare Ensemble, presenting such works as Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Händel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Mass in D minor, Coronation Mass, and Vespers K339 and KV321, among others.
