Contralto Heidi Skok transitioned to mezzo and has ultimately found great success after a distinguished, decades-long career as a soprano.

In 2023, Skok made her triumphant contralto debut, earning standing ovations for her portrayal of Madame Flora (Baba) in The Medium with First Coast Opera. Later that year, she stepped in at the last minute for Tulsa Opera’s, also as Madame Flora (Baba) in The Medium, delivering a powerful and acclaimed performance. In 2024, she performed recitals with the Cleveland Music and Drama Club, at Disciples Christian Church, and debuted with Mid-Ohio Civic Opera singing Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder. As a soprano, Skok worked with many of the world’s most celebrated conductors and opera companies. At the Metropolitan Opera, she performed under the batons of James Levine, Valery Gergiev, Nello Santi, Christof Perrick, and James Conlon. She also collaborated with Hal France at Wolf Trap Opera, Gerard Schwarz at the Mostly Mozart Festival.

Skok shared the stage with operatic legends, performing alongside Luciano Pavarotti in Donizetti’s L'Elisir d'Amore, Leonie Rysanek in Jenůfa, and Plácido Domingo in Parsifal. Her performances from the MET archives can be heard on Sirius XM radio. Her repertoire took her to prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Pittsburgh Opera, and the 92nd Street Y in New York City, where she sang in a Schubertiade with Hermann Prey and performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Christopher Plummer.
